I got it right. But before I got to the right answer, I noted two alternative solutions:
9-0 =/= 15 (Take match from 8 to make a 0, and use it to make a slash over the = sign to signify "not equal to". The rules never specified that the matches had to be perfectly vertical or horizontal.)
Turn a 9 in to a 4 by only removing one ????? The viable answers are 9-8 9-9 q -8 9-6 9+6 98 ... I'm sure there are a few other dose not = answers but you can't turn that 9 in to a 4 by removing just one match
When y'all make the = into a ≠ or a <, it's not an EQUATION any more, so you haven't "made the equation true." The right answer is among the above comments.
Remove a match stick from the top of the 5, and use it to light the rest of the match sticks on fire. When the 5 burns away, you have 9-8=1 and technically, you only moved one stick.
Other answers:
ReplyDelete9-6≠15, 9-9≠15, 9-0≠15

Also, 4-8 =/= 15 (same principle; turn 9 into 4).

DeleteThe fact that the question uses the term equation means that your "not equal to" answers are not correct. You are making inequalities, not equations.
Delete9 - 0 ≠ 15
ReplyDeleteChange the 8 into a 6 by removing the top left matchstick. Use that matchstick to change the minus into a plus. 9 + 6 = 15.
ReplyDeleteYup, got that in 5 seconds
Delete9+6=15
ReplyDeleteturn the 8 into a 6 by removing the right top candle and use it to form a plus, replacing the minus to the right of the 9
ReplyDeleteUh, he moved 2 sticks. Why am I here....
ReplyDelete7+8=15
ReplyDeleteOr you can remove the minus sign between 9 and 8 making it 98 ≠ 15 which is also a true statement.
ReplyDelete9 - 8 =/= 15 doesn't fit the definition of an equation. So, while that is simple, you are making an inequality, not an equation.
ReplyDelete4-8=1-5
ReplyDeletePush the left side of the top stick on the equals down to make a < sign. 9-8<15.

ReplyDelete9-8 work shift is 13 hours...
ReplyDelete9-8 = 13 (move 1 stick top left of 15 to the top right)
How about 1+9=8+8
ReplyDeleteOh with one matchstick move only
ReplyDelete1+9=8+8
